Yee Haw he overcame his fear! - Vacation Part 7

Levi is afraid of pretty much anything that moves (think flies even). So we were SUPER excited that he wanted to ride the miniature horses. Mommy had to be right by his side, but he actually did it, and had fun! Can I say again how excited we were! It made my mommy heart so happy.
Haven is a horse lover and of course was excited to get to ride a horse again.

Look he is smiling! A little hard to see, but it is there!
A generous man gave our kids some quarters to ride the rides.
Seriously, a RAT ride for kids???
They rode these horses a few time and seemed to have just as much fun as on the real horses.

Cowboy Symposium - Vacation Part 6

A big thank you to Mary (Jonathan's mom) for these pictures. My camera's battery was dead and I did not get any pictures of the Cowboy Symposium, which was the event we went to NM to attend!
Boy were we out of place at the cowboy symposium! We did not have big hair, big jewelry, big hats, big boots, or any cowboy/cowgirl attire. We still had a good time. Here are pictures of a few of the events. We did not have pictures of the many booths filled with cowboy bling, or the yummy food booths that are at all fair type events.
Haven got to ride a horse, which was a surprise because they were not technically giving horse back rides.
Jonathan's brother Michael likes to ride horses too. Notice the absence of Levi on any horse. The poor boy was afraid.
 Some beautiful sparkly face painting.
Levi's was a bit too girly for my taste (the mane was a bit foo foo looking). At least it didn't last too long on his face.
The got to make leather key chains with their initials and a picture.
Notice me helping Levi hammer. I didn't want the nice lady's hand to be broken by a mallet wielding boy.
We were anticipating the chuck wagon food. This man dressed in style for his role.
It did not disappoint! The meat was yummy. All the food was cooked the old fashion way in dutch ovens. They are pots cooked over coals with coals also heaped on top of the lid.
Have wanted to see these two singers and then got all shy on us.
This man was doing a demonstration on taming a horse. It was fascinating.
We also got to eat a chuck wagon breakfast. It happened to be in the thirties. Quite cold to begin the day! These are the dutch ovens I described above.
What a fun unique experience.

Indian Drawings - Vacation Part 5

We went to see some...well it was a really long word. In a nutshell it was ancient Indian drawings (they didn't call it hieroglyphics) . We had to hike up a hill, well it was a bit more than just a hill, but I wouldn't call it a mountain. Anyway, we hiked to see these scattered rocks with ancient drawings. My question was, what scattered the rocks? They were spread out over a large area. Was there a cave or a dwelling at one point? Hmmmm, don't know. The kids did a great job of climbing all the way up. Little Levi's short legs worked overtime. He pooped out on the way down though and I had to carry him most of the way. What a workout! Thank goodness it was on the way down, but it still was quite hard considering he is close to 40lbs!

 The views were beautiful.
